Autumn-Colored Textured Throws
Autumn-colored blankets are a trend for 2024. Having textured throws with warm and toasty colors, and placing them on sofas, chairs, or in bedrooms, not only serves a great function but also looks amazing.

Embrace Warm Minimalism
The cozy autumn interior design trend for 2024 that I find particularly appealing is the integration of "warm minimalism." This style combines the clean, uncluttered lines of minimalism with warm, earthy tones and soft textures, such as knitted throws and plush rugs. By focusing on simplicity and comfort, warm minimalism creates inviting spaces that are both functional and cozy, perfect for the cooler autumn months. This trend is not only stylish but also promotes a calming atmosphere in the home, making it ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation during the season.

Incorporate Natural Elements
One of my favorite trends for autumn 2024 is the use of natural elements to bring in color, texture, and nature into spaces. It allows you to be creative with elements from outside. Plus, you don't have to worry about bringing all the decor out that you've saved and treasured over the years.
The use of branches is my favorite way to decorate for fall. Placing them in a vessel with other floral sprigs or mounting them over a dining room table intertwined with a chandelier, or using them to create your own individual piece of artwork. Remember, you can also put color on those branches by spray-painting them—orange, red, green, and yellow. Branches are an economical way to bring autumn into your home, your way!

Layered Sustainable Design
As an architect focused on sustainable design, I find the cozy and layered look appealing for fall. Natural, textured fabrics in warm tones create an inviting space.
For example, in a recent lake house project, we incorporated wool rugs, linen upholstery, and cotton throws in burnt orange and olive green. The layered textiles added warmth while still feeling airy and casual. Gallery walls featuring nature photography and botanical prints brought the outdoor surroundings inside.
Alternative heating, like pellet stoves, provides a focal point for relaxation. We included a reading nook with an oversized chair, soft lighting, and wool blankets. The open-concept kitchen allows for connection while cooking, and long wooden tables are perfect for shared meals.
These layered, organic spaces create a hygge feeling of coziness that’s perfect for autumn. Using natural, sustainable materials provides health benefits through improved indoor air quality and supports local artisans. The result is a memorable, eco-friendly escape that appeals to homeowners wanting a wellness-focused lifestyle.

Utilize Rich Textures and Fabrics
My favorite cozy autumn design trend is the heavy use of textures and fabrics.
As the weather starts to cool and the sun sets earlier in the day, people are starting to bring out their favorite throws and blankets. There's nothing cozier than wrapping yourself in a warm blanket at night, surrounded by the beautiful warm colors of fall, like deep yellows and oranges.
Some of my favorite textures include cashmere and bouclé. Something about them is just so universally inviting and comforting.

Create Ambiance with Scented Candles
Two large 4-5-inch scented candles in a scent are my favorite fall must-haves. Having guests? Put the two candles on the coffee table and turn on soft music. Taking a bath? Take the two candles and turn off the light to create an ethereal glow. Dinner? Use one candle, but only during the meal (you don't want to change the flavor of the food with the scent). Self-care time? Candles, a textured soft throw, meditation, and a face mask.

Combine Wood Tones and Stone Accents
I've noticed cozy and natural designs growing in popularity for autumn interiors. For 2024, I anticipate warm wood tones, stone accents, and plush textiles creating an inviting atmosphere.
We recently remodeled a living room using reclaimed pine flooring, a rustic stone fireplace, and olive walls. The homeowner loved spending fall evenings relaxing there. These earthy elements resonate with clients craving cozy retreats.
Open-concept kitchens are ideal for connecting while baking seasonal treats or hosting potlucks. Long wooden farmhouse tables are perfect for sharing meals with loved ones. Gallery walls featuring landscape photos bring the changing season inside.
Accent lighting and fireplaces provide focal points for relaxation and bonding with friends or family. Staying ahead of trends is key to crafting timeless living spaces. Cozy autumnal interiors are a focus I foresee becoming more prominent in future projects.

Make the Fireplace a Focal Point
Last fall, I helped a family update their living room for the cooler months, and we made the fireplace the star of the room. They had a simple gas fireplace, but we wanted to make it feel warmer and cozier for autumn. We added a big, soft rug and some chunky blankets on the couch. Then, we decorated the mantel with candles and small pumpkins to bring in that fall feeling.
The family loved how the fireplace became the heart of their home. Every evening, they'd gather around it to relax, and it made their living room feel like the perfect cozy spot for the season. This trend of making the fireplace the main focus is one of my favorite ways to bring warmth and style to a room during autumn.

Mix Color Tones for a Lived-In Feel
A mixture of color tones and hues for a lived-in feel that transcends multiple styles, from traditional to coastal, rustic to modern, and vintage to retro.
Choose Versatile Fiberglass Planters
Fiberglass planters have come a long way as a design element for interior and exterior designs. Many of them now use automotive-grade paint, which gives so much versatility in terms of colors and finishes to fit into almost any interior design project or season. Matte, metallic, gloss, satin, textured—all of it is achievable with a fiberglass planter. If you look at the background of any scene in the Bravo Housewives franchise, you are almost always going to see a fiberglass planter as a statement piece, which they sometimes repaint for the seasons. Some of the colors you'll see for fall include Tangerine, Saffron, Matte Bronze, Satin Beige, Metallic Bronze, and Terracotta.

Add Orangey, Fluffy Decor Details
I don’t strictly believe in trends—New Year, summer, fall. I think your home should reflect your style, your needs, your habits. It mostly needs to be comfortable for you and your family. And if you want to have a more accentuated fall feeling, it’s easy—just add some nice, orangey, and fluffy details to your decor.

Use Warm Tones and Fire Pits
One cozy autumn interior design trend for 2024 that I find appealing is to utilize fall colors with warm tones like reds, oranges, and yellows. A bold, bright color like orange can evoke a feeling of warm, summer-like temperatures both indoors and outdoors to enhance a sense of health and well-being.
Orange is formed by mixing two primary colors: red and yellow. Red is associated with passion and power, and yellow is often associated with joy and confidence. These colors activate creativity and energy through the blending process. It is said that when you incorporate orange hues into your life, it evokes a sense of passion and love. It is bright and persuasive, denotes optimism and cheerfulness, and is associated with joy and sunshine. Orange supports emotional well-being and uplifts your mood.
As the autumn season approaches, the chill in the air and leaves blowing in an adventurous way allow us to feel and see the transition from one season to another. You can still enjoy your outdoor living space by adding a fire pit. Sitting and staring at the burning flames of orange mesmerizes and stimulates a sense of coziness and warmth. Take advantage of your entryway space. Porches and foyers are wonderful spaces to display your tasteful autumn foliage pieces.
Play with textures to elevate the cozy vibes—fluffy pillows, blankets, and shag rugs can be combined to bring a space to life and make it more pleasant for the autumn season. Play with your sense of smell. When you think of autumn, you think of certain scents, like pumpkin spice and apple. Embrace autumn foliage by hanging a colorful wreath on your front door or creating a stunning and unique crafted centerpiece for your dining table.
The bold, bright color of orange evokes a strong sense of individuality, self-expression, and promotes rejuvenation that lasts throughout the autumn months. Don't be hesitant to use orange in your decor, as it can add a little spark to your life, health, well-being, and might even stimulate new relationships.
